GRADUATE ASSISTANTSHIP
University of Florida North Florida Research and Education Center, Quincy, Fla. Graduate program in Horticultural Sciences with emphasis on plant-insect, plant-disease interactions. Funding is available to work with an interdisciplinary team concerning Pierce's disease of grapevines. The emphasis is the role of xylem fluid chemistry on leafhopper vectors and the bacterium, Xylella fastidiosa. Additional opportunities exist in the area of plant physiology of deciduous fruit. Specific commodities include peaches, nectarines, plums, grapevines and blueberries.

Desired qualifications include a background in stress physiology and some experience or familiarity in the entomology, plant pathology and/or microbiology disciplines. This is an MS or a PhD program. The stipend is $16,000/year for MS students and $18,000/year for PhD students. The position is available 1 Jan. 2006.
