Objectives of the Programme
The Joint United Nations Programme on HIV and AIDS in Indonesia is
searching for a suitable candidate for the position of Publications
Associate to provide support in managing its HIV/AIDS strategic
information; best practices and technical guidelines on various
HIV/AIDS issues. This is part of the implementation of the UNAIDS
Secretariat Work plan for the Indonesia
Partnership Fund for HIV/AIDS in 2006.
Background
The Indonesia Partnership Fund for HIV/AIDS has been established as
one of the funding sources for the national response to HIV/AIDS
through the National Action Framework on AIDS 2005-2007. The
National AIDS Commission will manage the fund, with UNDP providing
financial management services and UNAIDS providing technical review
and assistance.
The main focus area of the UNAIDS Secretariat is to ensure
coordination and harmonization among main implementing partners and
stakeholders and in particular to support the National AIDS
commission in implementing the national action plan for HIV/AIDS in
100 districts and cities throughout the
country.
Management of HIV/AIDS strategic information is a crucial part of
the work to ensure widely disseminated up-to-date and reliable data,
information and analysis on global, regional and country trends in
the epidemic, its impact, and the response, to support advocacy and
inform policy and strategy formulation by all partners.
Main tasks and Responsibilities of the Position
Under the direct supervision of the Programme Coordinator and
overall guidance of the UNAIDS Country Coordinator, the Publications
Associate contributes to the execution of the UNAIDS work plan in
making available relevant advocacy documents through the production
of guidelines, key materials and reference documents including
documentation of best practices; translation of existing materials
from global references on HIV/AIDS; establishment and maintenance of
an information resource center for the Secretariat of the National
AIDS Commission. The Information Assistant supports in overseeing
the coordination and management of publications and information
resource center.
Specific responsibilities include
. Coordinate the production of strategic information: guidelines,
key materials and reference documents including documentation of
best practice.
. Oversee translation and editing of existing materials from global
references on HIV/AIDS
. Assist the overall publication production process in close liaison
and consultation with Programme staff, including layout and graphic
design services, quotations, printing and distribution.
. Support the establishment and maintenance of an information
resource center for the Secretariat of the National AIDS Commission
that
includes:
(1) Develops cataloguing, classification and filing system of all
types of information products for the resource center - including
and not limited to visual and audio materials, publication,
presentations, reports, and information
(2) Develops and maintains the resource center system, ensures easy
storage and retrieval of the library materials - including the
development and maintenance of online catalogue and records of new
acquisitions and circulation of materials;
(3) Establish networks with other information centres and
participate in the designs of computer information systems and
websites to ensure access to up-to-date strategic information and
references
. Perform other duties as directed by Director and/or Management
from time to time.
Qualification and Experience requirements
. 5 (five) years experience in managing information production and
maintenance of an information resource center.
. University degree in Library Science; Marketing Communications;
Social Science or Computer Studies (Graphic Designs or Desktop
Publishing).
. Able to work under pressure and long hours.
. Able to take initiatives and work independently within overall
team.
. Key competencies of the assignment include:
o Demonstrated technical and project delivery skills in publication
production
o Ability to manage the work of vendors and/or outsourcing;
o Excellent writing skills;
o Understanding of HIV/AIDS-related issues and advocacy
o Ability to work in a team and meet management schedules
o Fluency in the working language (English), written and spoken
o Computer literacy in Word, Excel, Power Point, Access and internet
applications
