Centre for the Study of Technology, Ethics & Law in Society (TELOS) Studentship

The Centre for the Study of Technology, Ethics and Law in Society (TELOS) at King's College London is offering a studentship to new students who intend to register for an MPhil/PhD research degree programme commencing October 2006.

Applications are invited for a Graduate School studentship to research the regulation of modern technology for example, the regulation of some aspect of modern biotechnology or ICT, or the regulatory implications of developments in neurotechnology or nanotechnology, or arising from technological convergence.

The successful applicant will be based in the School of Law and will be supervised by Professor Roger Brownsword, Director of TELOS (the centre for the study of technology, ethics and law in society). Applicants must have a background in Law.

Entrance Requirement
Academic: a minimum of at least an upper second class degree (2:1) in law; or other relevant subject (or equivalent overseas); and/or a relevant postgraduate qualification with high marks equivalent at least to the merit classification.
English: Research degree programmes require excellent written English skills and it would be unwise for anyone to attempt these programmes if they were not confident of their abilities. Applicants whose principal language is not English must meet one of the following English language criteria:

TOEFL: a minimum score of 280 in the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) plus 5.5 in the essay rating or 650 in the paper-based test plus 5.5 in the TWE (Test of Written English); OR

IELTS (British Council): a minimum score of 7.5 in the International English Language Test plus 8.0 in the written component.

Funding
The studentship will provide funding for a minimum of three years, subject to satisfactory annual progress.

Fixed annual stipend for Home/EU/Overseas �14,300

Tuition Fees will be covered at Home level only.

Should an overseas applicant be granted the studentship he/she will be responsible for paying the difference between home and overseas fees.

Please note that travel expenses will NOT be reimbursed.

Competition for the studentship is open to Home, EU and Overseas applicants.

Candidates will be expected to study as full-time students.
