PhD Studentship Poly (ADP-ribose) polymerase (PARP) pharmacogenetics and expression analysis in patients receiving anticancer therapy

*Brief outline:
*PARP is a nuclear enzyme that facilitates the repair of DNA damage. Many anticancer agents damage DNA and PARP inhibitors are in clinical trial to enhance the activity of these agents. PARP activity varies between individuals and we wish to determine the underlying cause of this variability and the consequences in terms of patient toxicity and therapeutic response to anticancer therapy.
The project is based in the recently-opened Northern Institute for Cancer Research and utilise contemporary molecular biology and imaging techniques.

*Availability: *1st April 2006 for 36 months
*Sponsor: *Association for International Cancer Research Stipend £10,500 p.a
*Fees: *Paid for UK/EU students, overseas students will need to find sponsorship for overseas fees.
