Research Studentships James Martin Institute for Science and Civilization, Sad Business School

The James Martin Institute was established by the James Martin Trust in 2004 at the University of Oxford's Sad Business Schooland forms part of the James Martin 21st Century School . The Institute's mission is to initiate and conduct research on significant issues related to science, technology and environmental issues that are likely to shape society in the 21st century. To this end, the Martin Institute includes a core faculty, research and visiting fellows and MSc and doctoral students in its activities. The Institute contributes to the development of major research interests in the field of Science and Technology at Oxford's business school and is currently home to the ESRC Science in Society programme.

Applications for Research Studentships to commence in October 2006 are now invited from individuals with experience and/or interests in any area of the social dimensions of science and technology. Candidates with interests in the following areas are particularly encouraged to apply:

  • Non-western perspectives on transgenic plants and animals and their potential impact on global food production systems
  • Intersection between research on the social determinants of health, resilience and development
  • Technology, poverty and disasters
